This is a biggie. A very significant refactor of the codebase including a heap of bug fixes and some performance improvements. I have also ‘hopefully’ improved the .so dependency bundling. I built on Ubuntu 18.04 and tested on Ubuntu 24.05. Given the number of code changes, I have not been able to 100% test everything so fingers crossed there are no major issues. Checkout the changelog for the full list of changes.

Video playback on Linux is still broken but that’s not a ‘me’ issue – wxPython Wayland support is still in its early days and the devs have not got around to sorting out VLC and mediactrl embedding. There is something I am working on for the next release that may get around the whole issue but not sure.

I have build distributions for Windows, Linux, and MacOS.

You can download this release from here.

Please read the manual as it has everything you need.

Please report bugs. You can email pfemame@gmail.com or use the features on the sourceforge site to create a ticket, leave a review, or chat.

pfeMAME is a front end for the Multiple Arcade Game Emulator (MAME) written in Python. It is cross platform (tested on Linux (Ubuntu), Windows, and MacOS). It also includes a graphical Tile View designed for MAME cabinets which allows control using joystick / gamepad. It supports favourite game flagging, MESS systems, Software Lists (for systems), per-rom input mapping, and launching of other emulation engines. It was written with a minimalist view in mind but also because there were some features that I wanted that other front ends just didn't provide.
